There are many new mechanics and twists I would love to talk about, but doing so would dampen the excitement for players who haven't discovered them yet. Betrayal Legacy Hints & Tips - Game 1 - You can only Heirloom an Item at the moment you draw the card from the Item deck. The core gameplay features are all the same, and while some changes to rules do iron out issues found in Betrayal, each game is largely a similar experience. Its probably not giving too much away to say that generic man/woman icons are used for a reason, as there will be new NPCs throughout the campaign. Rules additions are a major element of Legacy games, and they can add a lot so well see what the next game brings. And Betrayal Legacywas just more of the same. (Spoiler: it wasnt.). SPOILER Betrayal: Legacy SPOILERS we missed a key part but don't know where *SPOILER* . There is a pair of linked actions: PREPARE, then SMASH, which you can use together to gather a bunch of mirror monsters together before destroying them but one player can do it all, eliminating the possibility of strategic cooperation between the players. Legacy:The big Legacy element of this Chapter was the introduction of the Otherworlds, and to be honest, they were overwhelming. The Bloodied Room was a rarity that we really remembered every time it returned, but most of the ghosts and scares just faded away into a deck of ghosts and scares, thus denying us their Legacy. Several of the weapons had a condition, when you kill someone with this weapon check a box. It runs over centuries, of course, so there will be new characters, with new bonuses to come. Certainly, the addition of any new rules system is to a Legacy games benefit and the addition of new places to explore even moreso. But we didint feel like the Legacy added much to the original game, and if anything, it really underplayed and underused its Legacyelements. You can access all my other Betrayal posts HERE. We define a traitor in a co-op game as someone whos purposefully lying in wait, trying to wreck the cooperation. Or could I make someone else reroll their dice? Co-op: We do something we havent before: we actually cooperate a bit before the Haunt, primarily using a special skill that allows us to somewhat select the house tiles coming up. Certain cards are destroyed or temporarily taken out of the game. Still, were always going to remember the murderer who took over the house. I didnt actually realize this until I saw an interview on Geek & Sundry with designer Rob Daviau. Parts of the house are expanded and destroyed, or otherwise permanently altered based on the outcomes of certain missions. The pre-Haunt play rarely feels long enough to be fulfilling, and then we descend into yet another variant of combat, and thats what happens once again. Essentially, a completed copy of Betrayal Legacy is a completely unique version of Betrayal at House on the Hill, shaped by the decisions you made during the campaign. boardgame geek. Right away, Betrayal Legacy shows how it stands apart from the original Betrayal at House on the Hill. We've just played chapter 3 (I know, I'm risking so many spoilers being here), so have only brought it out of its resting place. The Helm gives you a really great bonus of a reroll once per game and marking the helm with a family crest, which can give you story beats and other bonuses. We never managed to get the third check on any of the other weapons. Im not saying we didnt suspect what was going on in that first game. These seemingly minor details can have major implications by the end of the campaign. But now that were four games in, were more looking forward to seeing how things advance, because it feels like the Legacy and the co-op play are clicking in a way that they werent early on. There is still some strategic play, with several players running around and smashing so that a final player can INVOKE to close the portal, but its still a big step down from Chapters Two and Three, which had multi-stage strategic cooperation that we thought would be the new normal for the game, but which has largely disappeared in the games since. My niece would still like to play through it and Im considering it still. Co-op:This third game introduces a new mechanic: non-player personas who show up in the house at specific rooms. The instructions in the Rule book simply say draw a random Rune token . Elegant. So, we select for items and against omens, under the theory that its 80% likely to benefit each of us. Once weve got that in place, we also do some strategic work with some characters blocking the traitors movement to protect our guy most able to kill the doll. If youve never tried a Betrayal game then I suggest seeking out and giving the original a chance with the knowledge that some of the things that dont work there have been tweaked for the Legacy game. It really was that much fun. We didnt see many of our Legacy items due to a very quick haunt, and werent able to get them to the right people. In other words, wed wanted to see if the Otherworlds were interesting enough to get us to continue play, and if anything, they moved the game in the opposite direction. Betrayal Legacy is a cooperative, exploration game for 3-5 players which plays in about 90-120 minutes and is best with 4-5 players. You have been warned. Betrayal Legacy is a legacy game, based on Betrayal at House on the Hill. This time one of the characters is possessed by an evil axe-murdering spirit. That said, once you complete the campaign, your copy of Betrayal Legacy can be played infinitely in "Free Play" mode. Certainly, theres a plotted story that theyre interacting with, but they can still look at the game and the board and see the changes they chose to make. As it turns out, the cooperation ofBetrayal Legacyramps up in complexity and meaningfulness over the first four or so sessions of play, but this was not a great first look for a game that was supposed to be a co-op. Has the added benefit of permitting the Helm to be moved without sullying it with our unworthy human fingers. No, we still dont know what this means, but were told the next Chapter will be Part II of the game. The Traitor can even use their one time to reroll for their Monster, if they so choose. We had a situation where the traitor was We may not remember the loss of the Guest Room, but we will remember the killing of the Baby every time this Bloody Room shows up.
